Communities and Outreach
Subgroupmembers were invited to send email regarding four topics: 1. Are there any subjects you feel are underrepresented in the Subgroup/program? 2. How can we make the Subgroupmore inclusive vis a vis the career level of the speakers and the diversity of the speakers. 3. Was the election system effective? (email ballots versus a live election at the business meeting) 4. Nominations for next year’s program speakers with empha- sis on junior faculty. We look forward to seeing you in Boston in 2021 for another exciting meeting. — Catherine Musselman , Chair Motility and Cytoskeleton The Subgroup held its annual meeting on Subgroup Saturday, February 15, 2020. Organized by Co-Chairs Mike Previs (Vermont) and Ahmet Yildiz (University of California, Berkeley), the featured speakers presented cutting-edge research covering topics ranging fromdynein regulation throughmicrotubule networks tomyosin and sarcomere-level function. In addition to invited presentations from established investigators, short talks were given by graduate students and postdoctoral fellows selected on the basis of their meeting abstracts. At the business meeting, it was announced that Anthony Cam- marato (Johns Hopkins) and Melissa Gardner (Minnesota) were elected as Co-Chairs for 2022. An exciting new feature of the day was a networking social held at a local restaurant immediately after the afternoon session. This was tremendously well-attend- ed and greatly enjoyed by members of the group. The evening session speakers were equally impressive. Talks by Antonina Roll-Mecak (NIH), Richard McKenney (Junior Faculty Award Winner, University of California, Davis), and David Thomas (Key- note Speaker, University of Minnesota) focused onmicrotubules and their motors as well as myosin-based therapeutics. The 2021 Subgroupmeeting is scheduled for the morning of Sub- group Saturday in Boston. This will be the first morning session for many years, so remember to book your flights accordingly. The meeting Co-chairs are Sandy Bernstein (San Diego State) and Ken Campbell (University of Kentucky). More details will follow as the schedule is developed. — Sandy Bernstein and Ken Campbell , Co-chairs
