Subgroups Intrinsically Disordered Proteins

Additionally, the IDP Subgroup would like to reinstate the monthly IDP State Letter, run by graduate and postdoctoral trainees. The State Letter typically consists of four summaries of exciting articles related to the field of IDP. We now take this opportunity to extend a call for volunteers! Those interested can reach out to the Subgroup PhD representative, Noah Wake (noah_wake@brown.edu), or the postdoc representative, Aritra Chowdhury (a.chowdhury@bioc.uzh.ch). — Edward Lemke , Chair Multiscale Genome Organization As one of the newest BPS Subgroups, Multiscale Genome Organization (MGO) has sprinted into action, with bimonthly webinars and other activities. Please visit the MGO webpage to find out more or to join our Subgroup: https:/www.biophysics.org/subgroups/multi- scale-genome-organization. Recordings of the webinars are also available here. Over 185 people registered for the April 28, 2021 webinar to hear presentations by Vladimir Teif ( DNA Sequence-Dependent Formation of Heterochromatin Nanodomains ) and Karolin Luger ( Under Construction: Nucleosome Remodeling and Assembly ). At the time of writing, over 300 people had registered for the June 23 webinar. This webinar features Jeffrey Hansen ( Chro- matin Is a Remarkable Material Substance ) and Alexey Shaytan ( Atomic-Level Mechanisms of Nucleosome Dynamics from MD Simulations and Comparative Structure Analysis ). The August 18 webinar will highlight postdocs and graduate students. Jose Onuchic will be a speaker on October 13. All webinars are presented via Zoom on the second Wednes- day of even-numbered months at 11:00 AM EST. The webi- nars are open to Subgroup members and non-members alike. Register to attend the webinars at https:/ latech.zoom.us/ webinar/register/WN_b-7MurT_QPuMTb2ILyLj9A. The February 19, 2022 MGO Subgroup symposium at the BPS Annual Meeting will include a logo competition. All entries should be submitted to BPS’s annual Art of Science Image Contest.

The Intrinsically Disordered Proteins (IDP) Subgroup is very much looking forward to an in-person symposium at the up- coming 2022 Biophysical Society (BPS) Annual Meeting in San Francisco, California, which will feature talks from seven invit- ed speakers representing the diversity of science done by this community. In advance, we thank the program co-chairs Priya Banerjee , Galia Debelouchina , and Jeetain Mittal . Until then, to still your thirst for exciting IDP science, we share the following events and virtual formats that are newly launched or already existing (follow @BPS_IDP on Twitter for updates). The new Condensate–Colloquium Series is a biweekly virtual series on Intracellular Phase Transitions and Biomolecular Condensates. The series began on July 6, 2021, and is orga- nized by Julia Mahamid , Amy Gladfelter , Simon Alberti , and Rohit Pappu (http:/www.spp2191.com/condensate-colloquium-se- ries). This series will join existing activities of the community, such as: IDPSeminars: A twice-monthly virtual seminar series organized by Magnus Kjaergaard and Alex Holehouse (http:/ idpseminars.com/). Protein Folding and Dynamics: A twice-monthly lec- ture series organized by Hagen Hofmann , Ben Schuler , and Gilad Haran (https:/www.proteinfoldinganddy- namics.com/). IDPSIG: Run by early career researchers/trainees at Stanford University and the Carnegie Institution for Science, including Broder Schmidt , Steven Boeynaems , Keren Lasker , and Jerelle Joseph (https:/ idpsig.weebly. com/).

Molecular Basis of Proteinopathies Webinar Series: Weekly series organized by Ayyalusamy Ramamoor- thy , Bikash Sahoo , Joan Shea , and Magdalena Ivanova (https:/ rams.biop.lsa.umich.edu/symposium_1).

If you’d like a seminar series or talk advertised to the entire IDP Subgroup that is not yet listed above, please send an email to Subgroup Chair ( Edward Lemke , edlemke@uni-mainz. de) or the Secretary-Treasurer ( Carlos Castañeda , cacastan@ syr.edu).
