Department of Biological Sciences What do you wish you knew before you began your studies in biophysics?
I wish I knew there was a place where my love for physics and biology met and complimented each other. I liked physics concepts but not enough to ask many questions in that area. I liked biology but was not excited about it. I learned about biophysics in my first year of graduate school from my research mentor Anne Carlson . As she described the fast block to polyspermy, the way I thought about cells changed. I was drawn to their electrical properties. When we read Bertil Hille ’s Ion Channels of Excitable Membranes together, biophysics went from some- thing I knew nothing about, to all I wanted to learn.
