With the Fall Semester underway, BPS Student Chapters from across the world are hard at work setting up general body meet- ings, planning Chapter events, recruiting newmembers, sharing information, andmaking connections with students in biophysics and related fields. BPS has 29 Student Chapters around the world. To find a Student Chapter on your campus or near you, you can visit www.biophysics.org/student-chapters. Being part of a Student Chapter is extremely important. It allows students to connect withmentors and fellow peers as well as provides leadership and learning opportunities. Student Chapters have their own session at the Annual Meeting where they have the chance to discuss their Chapter progress, learn what other Chapters are doing, and connect with other Student Chapter mem- bers from around the world. Student Chapters also participate in Biophysics Week annually. The following are just some examples of the events and activities that BPS Chapters were involved in during this year’s Biophysics Week. The Kenya Student Chapter took a trip to a local high school during Biophysics Week. At the Igunga Girls Secondary School, the Chapter members spoke to the students about the field of biophysics, and the need for more women enrolled in science courses. The presen- tations from student participants focused on improving studying skills with tools and techniques such as group discussions, using curriculum approved textbooks, the 3R approach, and having a balanced personal study timetable. The Egyptian Student Chapter planned an “Egyptian ScienceWeek” where they communicated with students ages 10-26 years from all over the country at the Faculty of Nursing in SMOUHA. The main topic of discussion was radiation, specifically background infor- mation, how it affects people’s health, how humans can protect themselves, and using a detector tomeasure radiation. In the United States, theWisconsin Student Chapter invited five scientists early in their careers to discuss their career choices and share their experiences. The panel covered areas such as research, science communications, consulting, and patent law. The panel and audience engaged inmany interesting and productive discussions on career choices. Join your local Student Chapter and begin advancing your academic and professional career. If a Student Chapter does not exist at your institution, then we encourage you to start one! Please contact Joon Kwak at jkwak@biophysics.org with any inquiries regarding the Student Chapter program.

Numbers By the This year, BPS has awarded 39 science fair awards to students in grades K-12.
