University of California Irvine, USA Department of Chemistry What do you wish you knew before you began your studies in biophysics?

I first encountered the term biophysics during my undergraduate studies at IISER-Kolkata, India. I was drawn to the subject because of its rigorous approach to studying the complex world of biology. I realized the need to break the boundaries between disciplines like physics, chemistry, and mathematics, and apply the com- bined knowledge to understand the fundamental principles of life. With a growing passion for biophysics, I joined Loan Andricioaei , at University of California, Irvine, for my PhD, and performed atomistic computer simulations to model the microscopic behavior of nucleic acids and viral proteins. Coming from a background of theoretical chemistry, I wish I knew more about the importance of continuous collaboration between wet lab experiments and physics based computational modeling to unfurl the mysteries related to the function- ing of living systems.
