The IDP Subgroup is proud to continue promoting talented postdocs through our symposium and we hope you will consider nominations (or being nominated) for this year’s IDP Subgroup Postdoctoral Award (https:/www.biophysics.org/awards-fund- ing/subgroup-awards). The awardee will present a short talk at the meeting. During these challenging times, the IDP Subgroup is keeping its members aware of IDP-related virtual seminars on a biweekly basis. If you would like to learnmore about activities and future seminars in the IDP community, please consider joining the IDP Subgroup to receive updates and post comments via the BPS Discussion Forum. Please also follow us on Twitter: @BPS_IDP. — Nicolas Fawzi , Chair and Carlos Castañeda , Secretary-Treasurer Mechanobiology The Mechanobiology Subgroup is interested in attracting re- searchers who have an interest in the mechanisms that cells employ to develop their shape andmechanical properties. Cancer, aging, andmany biological problems are manifest in altered bio- mechanics that can best be understood at a biophysical level. We are looking for abstracts to be presented at the annual Subgroup meeting. Further, we currently seek applications for the Early Career Award inMechanobiology that will be presented at the 2021meeting. Application details may be found at https:/www. biophysics.org/awards-funding/subgroup-awards. — Michael Sheetz , Chair; Deborah Leckband , Chair-Elect; Sanjeevi Sivasankar , Secretary-Treasurer
The IDP Subgroup is excited to announce our speaker lineup for the Subgroup symposium at the virtual 2021 Annual Meeting. Please save the date: Monday, February 22, 2021, from2:00 pm to 6:00 pm EST. Our keynote speaker will be Keith Dunker , one of the IDP Subgroup founders and generous supporter of IDP postdoctoral award win- ners over the last several years. This year our program focuses on highlighting the work of early career faculty: Alexander Buell (Technical University of Denmark) develops experiments to reveal the underlying mechanisms of amyloid fibril formation; Andela Saric (University College London) uses computational approach- es to study protein aggregation and biological self-assembly; Beat Fierz (EPFL) employs single-molecule microscopy to probe chromatin remodelling by transcription factors; Rosana Collepar- do-Guevara (University of Cambridge), who recently received an ERC starting grant, develops computational approaches to study chromatin structure; Hagen Hofmann (Weizmann Institute) studies binding and allostery of disordered transcription factors; Allie Obermeyer (Columbia University) develops protein-based materials via complex coacervation; and Wenwei Zheng (Arizona State University) develops computational models of IDP phase separation. We thank ProgramCo-chairs Robert Best and Alessandro Borgia for bringing together investigators on a broad range of IDP topics including structure-function relationships of IDPs, amyloid forma- tion, and liquid-liquid phase separation.
