Biophysicists are invited to mingle and network with the Black in Biophysics community! This social, preceding the Black in Biophysics symposium, will facilitate networking, establishment of mentor-mentee relationships, exchange of research and professional opportunities, and development of collaborations between members and allies of the Black in Biophysics community. Check out BlackinBiophysics.org or follow @BlackInBiophys on X or @blackinbiophys.bsky.social on Bluesky for more information from the community. Refreshments will be provided. All individuals at all levels of training who seek to establish friendships, community, and collaborations with colleagues at Black in Biophysics are invited to join. Education Committee Meeting 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm, Room 407 Inside Perspectives and Opportunities NSF Grants 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm, Canceled The National Science Foundation (NSF) is one of the largest federal funders of biophysical research each year alongside the National Institutes of Health. Through the Division of Molecular and Cellular Bio sciences, scientists continue to advance basic and biomedical research. Join us for an insider’s perspective on the various divisions offering grant funding within NSF and learn how to put together a strong grant application. This session is a great opportunity for new and early career investigators. Panelists Engin Serpersu, Division of Molecular and Cellular Biosciences (MCB) Marcia Newcomer, Division of Molecular and Cellular Biosciences (MCB) Goli Yamini, Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) Biophysical Reports Editorial Board Meeting 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm, Room 405 Symposium Black in Biophysics 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm, Petree Hall C Co-Chairs Christopher Barnes, Stanford University, USA Alisha Jones, New York University, USA No Abstract 4:00 pm INVESTIGATING THE INTERACTION OF THE C-TERMINAL INTRINSICALLY DISORDERED REGION OF FMRP AND R-LOOP. Have you started thinking about your next career step? Are you wonder ing if you can apply your academic skills in industry? Or Join us for a Q&A discussion about scientific careers in industry. Industry panelists will answer audience questions and share their career experiences. Hear from professionals in different roles and positions and get tangible advice for identifying and pursuing a career in industry. Moderator Clemens Anklin, Bruker Biospin, USA The Biophysicist Editorial Board Meeting 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm, Room 405 Inside NIH Explore Biophysics Grant Opportunities in Key Institutes 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm, Room 403B The National institutes of Health (NIH), with its 27 Institutes and Centers, can cause researchers moments of pause as they navigate where their research is best applied. While each Institute and Center has its own distinct focus of research, there is a considerable amount of overlap and coordination that does occur – particularly in biophysics research. Join the Public Affairs Committee as we welcome Program Directors from the National Institute on General Medical Science (NIGMS), the Center for Scientific Review (CSR) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Institute on Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) to talk through the opportunities that are available for biophysicists. Panelists George Umanah, National Institute on Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) Anowarul Amin, National Cancer Institute (NCI) Veronica Taylor, National Institute on General Medical Science (NIGMS) Snack Break 1:45 pm - 3:00 pm, West Exhibit Hall Poster Presentations and Late Posters 1:45 pm - 3:45 pm, West Exhibit Hall Committee on Sustainability (COS) Meeting 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, Room 518 Career Development Center Workshop Leveraging LinkedIn in the PhD Job Search: Networking, Informational Interviews, and More 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm, Room 409B You’ve done some exploration and identified some interesting possibili ties as the next step after grad school or your postdoc, but is it enough to convince you that research in industry, medical science liaison, data science, etc. is right for you? More importantly, do you know enough to craft a persuasive story about why you’re a credible and compel ling candidate? This presentation provides specific examples of how you?build out your knowledge of a new, potential career field, and forge valuable connections that can facilitate your successful transition out of academia using LinkedIn, professional societies, informational inter views, and more.
