Participating as a New Committee Member. If you are se lected to serve on a committee, we encourage you to actively participate in discussions. It’s important to feel comfortable and confident—committee meetings are designed to be a welcoming and collaborative space. There’s no need to feel intimidated; the environment is supportive, and in many committees, the atmosphere is not only professional but also friendly and fun, with members often enjoying the camarade rie of working together. If you have a fresh perspective or new ideas, we want to hear them! Your input as a new member is valued and encouraged. Each committee thrives on diverse viewpoints, and your contributions help make BPS a dynamic and inclusive organi zation. Your voice matters. As you contribute to the committee’s work, there’s a strong possibility that your efforts will be recognized, and if your participation aligns well with the committee’s goals, you may be invited to serve an additional term. This is a good indica tor that you are on the right track, making a positive impact. However, if after attending a few meetings you feel that the committee isn’t the right fit for your interests or skill set, we encourage open communication. Reach out to the committee chair or BPS staff, who can help guide you toward a commit tee that better aligns with your strengths and passions. It’s a great way to contribute, connect with peers, and make a lasting impact in biophysics! To be eligible, you’ll need to be an active BPS member at the time of your appointment and maintain membership throughout your term.
