Award recipients will present their work at the Biological Fluorescence Subgroup Symposium, to be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, during the 70th Annual Meeting of the Biophysical Society. The program of this event also already features an exciting lineup of invited speakers: Anna-Karin Gustavsson (Rice University), Suliana Manley (École Polytech nique Fédérale de Lausanne), Erwin Peterman (Vrije Univer siteit), Sobhan Sen (Jawaharlal Nehru University), and Jerome Wenger (Institut Fresnel). The symposium will be followed by our traditional Subgroup dinner. We look forward to celebrat ing the fluorescence community together in San Francisco! — Elizabeth Hinde , Chair Channels, Receptors, & Transporters The Channels, Receptors, & Transporters (CRT) Subgroup Symposium will take place at the 70th BPS Annual Meeting in San Francisco, CA, on February 21, 2026. Join us for an inspiring day featuring leading scientists who will share their groundbreaking research. We are excited to announce our invited speakers: Diana Bautista (HHMI/University of Cali fornia, Berkeley), Tian Hua (ShanghaiTech University iHuman Institute), Eduardo Perozo (University of Chicago), Josefina Del Marmol (HHMI/Harvard University), Thomas Voets (VIB Center for Brain & Disease Research), and Charles Cox (Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute). To showcase our early career mem bers, we will select three short talk slots for postdoctoral fellows
and three five-minute flash talk slots for graduate students. They will be selected from CRT Subgroup member abstracts submitted for the main BPS Meeting. Selected early career presenters will also receive a complimentary ticket to the Cole Award Dinner. Nominations are being accepted for the Kenneth S. Cole Award, a prestigious recognition given to one or more re searchers in the field of membrane biophysics in acknowl edgment of their exceptional research accomplishments, potential for future contributions, and service to the bio physics community, through October 25. Details on eligibility and nomination requirements are at www.biophysics.org/ Awards-Funding/Subgroup-Awards. The CRT award dinner will be at La Mar restaurant after the symposium. Tickets are limited and can be purchased for $150 when registering for the BPS Annual Meeting. Also, nominations for the next chair elect of the Subgroup are due in mid-November. The network creates opportunities for current PUI faculty to network and share experiences with one another. Members of the Network exchange tips and ideas such as teaching strat egies, latest trends in education technology, online teaching, and more. Graduate students and postdocs interested in obtaining academic positions at PUIs are encouraged to join. Employment of biochemists and biophysicists is projected to grow 6% from 2024 to 2034, which is faster than the average for all occupations. About 2,900 openings for biochemists and biophysicists are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of these openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or retire U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Outlook Handbook , www.bls.gov/ooh/life-physical-and-social-sci ence/biochemists-and-biophysicists.htm, accessed August 28, 2025.
