MEMBRANE FUSION MEDIATED BY CLASSICAL DYNAMIN MACHINERY Anna Shnyrova Zhadan 1 ; 1 University of the Basque Country, Santsoena, Spain Membrane fission and fusion are the fundamental processes underlying membrane remodeling in cellular membrane trafficking. Both are highly localized, with lipid membrane mechanics playing a major role in both processes. Physiologically relevant fusion and fission are postulated to proceed through a common intermediate - a membrane stalk – that allows for leakage-free topological rearrangements of the membrane. Therefore, it is tempting to hypothesize that the mechanisms underlying both outcomes share common principles. Classical dynamins, such as Dynamin 2, have long been implicated in membrane scission across the cellular membrane network. Here, I will discuss the potential role of Dyn2 in membrane fusion.
